QUOTE (Adam B) Fishing during summer is definitely an exciting way to spend your leisure time. So if you are not yet prepared with the gears and fishing accessories that you need, you may go for a home-made fishing hook instead. ![]() QUOTE (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/366276/how_to_make_a_homemade_fishing_hook.html) The simplest way to make a fish hook is to start by going out and buying a piece of barbed wire. Any barbed wire will do since they all have spiked points. Each one of the spiked points has the potential to become a fishing hook. Next you will need a pair of wire cutters, needle nose pliers and a can of waterproof red spray paint.
Making homemade fishing hooks may prove to be cheaper than going out and buying them off the shelf. While making fishing hooks can save money to the beginner or recreational fisherman or woman a professional should probably stick to what works for them especially if they enter fishing tournaments. When making a homemade fishing hook wearing a pair of thick gloves can help prevent cuts. Hold the piece of barbed wire in one hand and use the wire cutter to cut a spiked point off. Cut the spiked point at the base where it is attached to the wire. Take the spiked point and starting at one end use the needle nose pliers to bend the metal upward in a half round hook shape. Once the hook is shaped it is ready to be spray painted red with waterproof paint. Since the color red is a sign to other fish that a fish is wounded fish are more likely to bite it thinking they have found an easy target for food. Spray one side of the hook with paint and allow it to completely dry then turn the hook over and spray the other side allowing it to completely dry. If a hole is desired at the top of the hook to run a fishing line through there are tools that can melt out a hole, but really a hole isn't necessary. Take the finished hook and wrap the fishing line on the rod, where the line normally hangs with a hook attached, around it at the non-hook end and tie it off in a knot. The hook is ready to be baited and cast into the water. -------------------- If you have the courage to try and the faith to believe, there's nothing in life that is hard to achieve.
