Shakespere nick name?

Question asked on WikiAnswers

Centuries ago, people used to call William Shakespeare, "bard", which means a "poet". And it turned out to be his nickname, calling him like "Bard of Avon" or the commonly used phrase, "Stratford-upon-Avon" where Shakespeare had lived for many years.
